Tikiroa is a New Zealand native with Maori and Dutch ancestry. He has lived on the island of Koh Phangan for the past ten years, practicing his art and embracing island life.
Koh Phangan is world famous for pristine beaches and its Full Moon and Jungle parties. See the section “About Koh Phangan” on this site to get a better idea of what it’s like.
All tattoos created and applied by Tikiroa are drawn and poked by hand using the traditional Thai bamboo method. He does not use tattooing machines. Please see the “About Tatau” section of this site to learn more.
Getting a bamboo tattoo it is a completely different experience from machine tattooing. The process is less painful but takes significantly longer. The feeling is much more natural and the healing process less traumatic.
Tikiroa prefers to draw all tattoos free- hand to ensure an original design and finished product. Where he comes from, an exact copy of someone else’s tattoo is a severe insult to them.
Tiki’s process works like this:
First you talk and discuss ideas, designs, styles and location of your proposed tattoo.
Next he will draw a rough sketch of the tattoo on your body to determine proper location, size and orientation.
Finally you agree on the design and location and the tattooing process begins.
Tikiroa is a serious artist with both a passion and a gift for his work. His commitment to this art form has earned him many awards, friends and happy clients from around the globe.
